Attended the Houston Museum of Natural Science member’s preview of the new Hall of Paleontology this Memorial Day weekend and it is a must see for anyone in the area this summer.  Presented more like a modern art exhibit, the hall is 30,000 square feet with some of the largest, most impressive and beautiful displays I’ve seen.  The Hall of Paleontology opens to the general public June 2, 2012…

Why I like Mc Donald’s (I know, I know…)

Mc Donalds RestaurantWithout getting into the politically correct arguments about why someone may or may not like Mc Donald’s, my reasons are completely pragmatic.

I gave up life in corporate America over a decade ago and all the conveniences typically associated with working for a large company; things like a break room. I work from a home office the majority of the time but like most people I still need the occasional “time out” from the work routine. Only at home when you get up from the desk there is always something else to get busy with – dishes, house cleaning, kids, pets, yard, etc. – not much of a break and easy to get caught up in personal projects that take more time and attention away from work than intended. Social media for your business giving you a headache?

Social Media HeadacheRemember when using social media for your business meant handing someone your card along with a polite greeting and a hand shake?

Those of us fortunate enough to be out networking and building our businesses know that in large part that scenario still holds true.  Nothing can replace the power of face to face human interaction; I heard it said best in a sales seminar many years ago, “The hardest thing to get rid of is a human body.”

Still we are faced with the reality of our current situation where human interactions both personal and professional are becoming increasingly digital in nature; Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and so on. So what does that mean in terms of how we engage with our customers?  The speed and volume of data flowing daily in the information and technology age makes it seem impossible to get noticed; where online, digital self-promotion reigns, everyone is “famous” and so no one is famous.
